After the petty officers bunks and radio room there is this door. Wow.
Anyway, that door leads into this room, machinery control. It's pretty small, I hit my head on that padded thing.
That last room leads onto the most spacious compartment in the sub, the deisel engine room. The sub is powered by 3 2,000 horsepower deisel engines, one for each of the 6-bladed propellers. On the surface these engines give the sub a 20,000 mile range, or 36,000 kilometers. The Foxtrot class submarines were also equipped with a snorkel, to allow the deisel engine to breath (and thus run) while submerged. I do not believe the fan in the upper left corner of the picture was standard equipment.
